Oh No They Didn't!: Tennessee Woman Outraged by "ghetto booty" Diagnosis

Image
"Terry Ragland, a woman in Tennessee, was incensed after her doctor, Timothy Sweo, diagnosed the source of her severe lower back pain as "ghetto booty." "  According to the Huffington Post article ( click here) "Dr. Sweo later sent Ragland a letter apologizing for his use of the term, explaining it was an attempt to translate the diagnosis into something "less technical." Reached for comment by WREG, Sweo clarified: “What I was trying to explain to that patient is that she has lumbar lordosis, which is a fancy name for the curve of the lower spine that makes the buttocks protrude more. In trying to explain that I said that she had ghetto booty." He added that he understood why her feelings had been hurt." Oh no he didn't! Deconstruction : this is a three part failure. 1. The verbal insult 2. The non-apology letter 3. His ridiculous statement that he understood why her feelings were hurt.  The shocking scope of the racist nature of th...

Oh No They Didn't!:Defining the Opportunistic Racist

from theGrio | July 16, 2013 at 2:11 PM  "Limbaugh says he can use n-word now, because Rachel Jeantel did" Oh No He Didn't! An opportunistic racist is an individual who uses racist remarks for their shock value, for personal gain. So these individuals do not really care what damage they do, their aim is to cash in on the hatred people have for any given group of people to are traditionally marginalized. If one day he has an off moment on the stage of his own life, an audience of strangers not familiar with him or his unorthodox message transmission methodology might turn on him and do him deadly harm. That potentially catastrophic event is the nightmare that drives many of my advocacy efforts. They are in fact actions taken to prepare him and the society that discriminates against him for a time when such an encounter might take place. Because when encounters occur between armed individuals and autistic males of color, the outcome is disproportionately fatal. Often young men are killed in front of their own loved ones. Fighting the odds that took the lives of Paul Childs III, R...
